Day 13 of The Big Adventure according to Sarah.
Another late lie in – ooopsy. This was becoming a bit of a habit. We headed back upstairs to explore some different breakfast options.
Lauren went for muesli with yoghurt and of course, tea – we weren’t being fooled by the fresh fruit platter or the eggs benedict today. I went for the standard boiled eggs and toast – don’t fix it if it ain’t broke.
Laurens breakfast arrived and, to her upmost disappointment, it was muesli rather than granola with her yoghurt. She wasn’t best impressed.
Another day of sunbathing was ahead of us and the sun was shining so we headed back to our fav beach resort.
We laid in the sun and frolicked in the pool basically all day.
When we over- heated a little we ordered some watermelon shakes; which were essentially fresh watermelon blended with ice. So refreshing.
The hostel called us to let us know that my parcel had finally arrived – thank god! Which meant we no longer needed to stay in Koh Samui. So first thing on the agenda was to decide where we wanted to go next and book our tickets outta there!
Later on in the afternoon we decided to wander down to a fabulous ice cream place we had passed on our way home last night.
And on our way we passed a travel agent that was advertising tickets to Phuket. We went in and managed to organise a ticket to leave the next morning – perfect! Pickup from the hostel was from 6.30-7am. Not so perfect. But we had a long way to travel so we figured it was probably worth getting started early. Happy that we finally had a plan and a ticket out of Koh Samui, we continued to the ice cream stand.
We each asked for a cup with one scoop and, clearly, the lady was feeling generous because we both got 3. Lauren went for the (perhaps predictable) Oreo flavour and I went for frozen yoghurt with strawberry swirl. YUM.
We wandered home slowly and stopped off to sample another banana pancake like the one Lauren had in Bangkok. DOUBLE YUM.
We both showered and de-sanded and decided to celebrate our last night on the island with a romantic dinner on the beach (we had passed plenty of options on our way to Ark Bar the night before).
We settled on a nice hotel-run restaurant with a live acoustic guitarist and singer who was up on a somewhat makeshift stand. It was a nice relaxed vibe and the food looked amazing.
We ordered some bruschetta and vegetable spring rolls to start and sat back to enjoy the music.
An hour after we’d finished our starters our mains still hadn’t arrived and the tables were beginning to empty. Had they forgotten about us?!
The waitress, clearly picking up on our angst, came over to explain it would be another 5 minutes. We had ordered 2 mains to share: one experimental Thai dish, and one safe western dish. Finally our mains arrived; Lauren started with the duck curry, which could best be described as a fruit salad in curry sauce. There were grapes, there was pineapple; in fact, there was more fruit than on our fruit platter at breakfast. The duck had a nice flavour and the sauce was deeelicious. Lauren commented that ‘usually if there’s fruit in my savoury food I disregard it, but here I feel I should embrace it’. She tried to embrace it, but the grapes had a suspicious fishy taste and were eventually disregarded.
I started with spaghetti and meatballs which tasted suspicious. So I ended up just eating the spaghetti. Half way through we switched plates and tried the other main. Neither of us were keen on the grapes or the meatballs.
We settled up the bill and started walking home. On our way, we passed a stall selling canvas bags. I needed a day bag and they were selling ones with watermelons on (my fav) so I haggled the price and bought it. I have perfected my haggling technique by starting with something really quite rudely low: Vendor: ‘that’s 350baht’
Me: ‘ill give you 100 baht’
Vendor: ‘250’
Me: ‘200’
BOOM.
Almost half the price.
Still trying to figure out when haggling is acceptable and when it is not.
Anyway, we went on our way and now I had a grand total of two bags! Things were looking up 🙂
We went home and packed up our bags (yes, bagS, you heard right) in preparation for our disgustingly early start in the morning.

woaaaa this is a great vacation, I want to be like you ^^
