Return to the matchbox

Day 26 of The Big Adventure, according to Sarah.

We awoke to our alarm and dragged our sleepy heads from our beds. Today we were flying from Krabi back up to Bangkok. We packed up our backpacks and had miniature bananas (yay)  and Oreos for breakfast (oops) and before we knew it, it was time for us to get our taxi to the airport.

Giant hands or small bananas?

The taxi driver (who was also a family member of hostel owner) put on some old school western tunes which included a great variety from James Blunt to Gwen Stefani – we were loving it.

We arrived at Krabi airport and went to check in – only to find check in had not opened yet. We were rather early.

So we waited around and Lauren got a nice hot tea. When check in finally opened we checked in our bags and went through to the departure lounge, which was basically just a collection of chairs with one or two newsagent-type shops around the outside, selling a vast array of Pringles and some other questionable produce…

We finally boarded our flight at around 1pm and settled into our seats.

The flight to Bangkok didn’t take long at all and it seemed we were coming into land just as we had taken off. This time we flew with Nok Air who provided an enjoyable blueberry muffin as a snack. Bravo Nok Air.

We were flying into DMK, where Air Asia had lost my bag on that fateful day. I decided to go over to the Air Asia lost and found office to see if they’d had any luck. They took us on a little tour of DMK, taking us to the other Air Asia lost and found office. It seemed that at least 50% of Air Asia employees were trainees, which was worrying.

We finally arrived at the lost and found office where I had reported my bag missing on that first day and they told me they had conducted a thorough search and had not located my bag. They then gave me a piece of paper to sign off my missing luggage so they could pay me a grand total of $20USD/kg in compensation.

Damn me for packing light.

With that, we decided it was time we headed to our hostel – Matchbox (of course, where else?!).

We knew exactly how to get there from being in Bangkok a few weeks ago, so we hopped on the A1 bus to Mo Chit and then got the Sky Train the rest of the way.

When we walked into Matchbox, the receptionist greeted us with ‘you’re back!’ Happy to be recognised we said our hellos and checked in.

We headed upstairs to drop our stuff in our matchbox and made a plan what to do for the rest of our day.

We decided we may aswell get our shopping out of the way so headed to MBK.

We’d heard they had some legendary food court on the 6th floor so we went up there for a cheeky burrito and then had a wander around.

We went to H&M across the road to finally buy me some underwear (I’d been living out of those multi-pack pants you buy when you’re at primary school – eurgh) and perhaps a new bikini or two. Oops. And a rather dashing pair of pyjamas to match my watermelon bag…

‘Melon dollar baby’

When H&M literally threw us out at closing time we decided it was time for bed and headed back to our matchbox.

We soon realised today was Easter Sunday and we hadn’t seen ONE chocolate egg!

So on our way home we bought an array of chocolate bars and ate them in bed.
