Day 35 of The Big Adventure, according to Sarah.
We slept in because we knew we had until noon to check out so we pottered around and had some breakfast. Then at 12 we headed downstairs and because we wouldn’t be able to check into our next hostel, Beach Road, until 2pm we thought we may aswell hang around here and get some blogging done.
We ordered an enjoyable vegetable burrito and had a (mandatory) pot of tea.
Inevitably, the blogging session got the better of us and in an attempt to get up to speed ended up staying until about 6pm! Oops.
We said our thank you’s and goodbyes to the hostel staff (who were probably wondering why the bloody hell we were still sat there) and jumped in a tuktuk.
We had decided to try and find another hostel, that was a similar price, but that was closer to the beach so we didn’t have to keep spending money getting tuktuks everywhere.
We arrived at Beach Road to a rather grumpy receptionist. We checked in and he showed us to our room.
As soon as we walked in we realised what a fatal error we had made. The room smelt like damp. The door didn’t fit the frame (as showcased by Lauren).
The wifi was non-existent. The tv looked like it was from the 80s and made a funny noise and then showed the blue screen of death after 10 minutes of viewing. And just as we thought it couldn’t get any worse… We heard a funny noise. Almost like a radiator.
I turned around to see what the noise was but obviously there weren’t any radiators here. And then something caught my eye; the air con was dripping onto the bed side table and Laurens pillow.
Oh dear.
We sat down on our respective beds (which were actually very large and very comfy, can’t fault them there) and for the millionth time asked ourselves ‘what is life?!’.
We had noticed a few rather large mosquitos flying around our room (despite the air conditioning AND fan) so Lauren sprayed herself in our 50% deet insect repellent; not two minutes later had a mosquito pulled up a chair, picked up his knife and fork and began making a meal out of Lauren’s juicy leg.
Repellent resistant mosquitos?! How is that even a thing?!
We immediately began searching for a new hostel for tomorrow night only to find the wifi was completely non-existent. We decided this was all a grand scheme on the hotel behalf trying to trap us.
Well we wouldn’t stand for it.
Lauren used 3G and promptly booked us into another hostel for the next night – Zana Beach House (which was misleadingly far from the beach).
And with that we lay our heads and wished we were back at Small Hotel…
