Adventure Queens

Day 50 of The Big Adventure, according to F-Dawg.

Next day was adventure packed and we were up early and off canyoning. Again the guides were absolute babes. Though overly excited that there was one lucky boy in a group of girls. Embarrassing moment when filling in forms when we realised we are very old and everyone in our group seemed to be children.

Despite being the eldest in the group I was terrified. And it turns out I hate heights. Who knew?

We all got geared up and looked heinous but hilarious. Parks was rocking the European look and tucked her orange top in her blue shorts. Fashionista.

I obv had a lad hat cos of my big boy head which was a gm different colour to everyone else’s. Classic.

After practicing abseiling on a hilly section against a tree we were off.

Lauren looked so happy once she’d got to the bottom and while I sat there terrified Sarah and Parker hoped I’d look like Lauren by the end. I did not.

Obviously I can see that it’s safe and I realise I’m attached and even if I completely mucked up I can’t really go anywhere it is literally one of the scariest things I’ve ever done. I hate not being in control and my heart was just racing. And the most ridiculous thing is the guides keep yelling at you to smile and wave your hands around for photos. PHOTO PHOTO. UM no.

As if I’d let go for a peace sign photo opportunity. Morons. Though everyone else did and was apparently having fun. Mavericks.

Anyway I knew I had to do the second one so tried to get it over with as soon as possible and the guide had made me a vip and was being encouraging cos I was an embarrassing little scaredy cat in the group. As I went down he cried, “you’re the best one”! Don’t patronise meeeeee!

Then we did cliff jumping and it was literally the most fun I loved it. It was a 7 metre jump and I kind of wish I’d done the 11m but it was rockier and the girls were worried about hitting the rocks of you don’t jump far enough out and it sort of swayed me not too. SO fun though.

Then we had a delicious little picnic with yummy fresh fruit and the surroundings are just stunning. So green and amazing waterfalls. Lucky lucky us!

As we were waiting for the “washing machine” Parker aka big fat amazonian baby clambered into a hammock in the most inelegant way and was swinging away. Hilarious. But honestly after abseiling when people reach the bottom they just hang in the water not moving getting the guides to pick them up and they look hilarious and incompetent. Hence big amazonian babies. In comparison to tiny little lovely Asians.

Ooh I forgot the lazy river! Divine and so relaxing. And Sarah and Lauren went together holding hands like otters and they looked adorable. We also did water sliding. Which looks terrifying and bumpy but it actually doesn’t hurt and is such a rush and so fun.

Though you do get water up your nose. The trekking in general is super fun and you feel like adventure Queens.  However I had loads of mud on my bum which apparently made me look like I had pooed myself and it was dripping down my leg. Parker was laughing at this so much that as she was crossing a log over water she managed to slip and fall but somehow saved herself with a rope so just kind of hung there. So FUNNY.

ANYWAY by the time we reached the washing machine I had completely psyched myself out and made the mistake of looking down and couldn’t abseil down it and chickened out. How embarrassing. But the gals all did it. You abseil part way then slide down the rest through a waterfall before dropping into the water below. Looked so cool but they all said it was scary so just as well I didn’t.

When we got home Sarah had the longest shower I’ve ever known before the rest of us all got ready put on our travelling pants and hit the town.

Went for hot drinks in a cafe

made a mistake with one restaurant so had a starter and left and then went to a really nice art restaurant. They had a musician there as well and the da lat wine was amazing.

Then we went to this great little tree housey like bar where a slightly crazy lady made us a Strawberry daiquiri pitcher that she had made up and was very proud of.

We then got little cream cakes on the way home

and after sunned mine and Parks’ burnt little shoulders. Poor pale us.

We love da lat. This was my fave evening so far and I am just having the MOST daLATful time with da lads. Long may the sisterhood of the travelling pants reign.
