Day 55 of The Big Adventure, according to Sarah.
I woke up relatively early to find the hungover girls and Lauren still fast asleep next to me. How very unlike me to be the first awake.
I potted around for a while and realised I needed to check how long my Vietnamese visa was valid and it was only valid until the 1st May and we were staying until the 6th. Uh oh.
Thankfully I’d checked before we had another overstayed aliens situation on our hands again.
I had a look online at how to extend it and there was a very helpful website that told me I’d be able to go into the police station and they’d extend it for me for $20. Perfect.
So I got dressed and by this time Parker had woken up too and said she wanted to come with.
We headed to the police station all full of hope, only to be told to go a travel agent. I’d read online that travel agents can charge extortionate prices and they vary hugely so I’d really wanted to avoid this. Damn you corrupt police.
So we went in search of the travel agent he suggested and they quoted me $50, a huge increase on the $20 it was supposed to be with the police, so I decided to ask around at a few other places.
As we were walking down the street, a lady laden with fruit came up to us and demanded we take a photo of her.
Happy to oblige, I took a few photos and we carried on walking. Then she came after us demanding we buy some fruit from her. Errrr, no thanks.
We walked off at a brisk pace so that she couldn’t catch us up with her heavy load.
A minute or so later we decided that actually, we would LOVE a banana and there was a lady sat by the side of the road selling them. So we asked to buy two bananas and as we were handing the money over, the feisty photo lady came over screaming. Aaawkward. We just carried on and walked off quickly with our bananas. Ooopsy.
Parker had been wanting to get a new dress and skirt made for work so we went into a few different tailors to get a feel of price. We found a place with the exact style she’d been looking for and went in to choose the material and negotiate a price and when to pick it up. Finally something was going right this morning.
Then we got a message from the girls that they’d finally woken up and were keen to head to the beach so we headed back to pick them up.
We all changed into our bikinis and got a taxi to the beach. We set up camp on some sunloungers and Freya and Parker went for a dip.
I saw some shops on our way that were advertising that they hand make bikinis in any style you want. My favour bikinis were in the bag that Air Asia lost, so I found some pictures of them and went to ask if they’d make them for me. When I got there she simply said ‘I only make my designs’.
Oh right, so that sign out there is a big fat lie then? Great.
I headed back to the beach to find that Lauren was feeling really sick. She thought she was going to chunder so she went to the toilet but nothing happened. She didn’t look like a happy bunny so I found us a taxi and got us back to the hostel. She hadn’t really eaten anything that day so I didn’t know what it could be that had made her feel sick. Back at the hostel she had a nice sleep and woke up feeling much better.
When the girls got back from the beach we all decided to go for dinner in the restaurant over the road. It was a lot cheaper than some of the places in town and it had some great reviews.
We ordered some fried wantons and Spring rolls as starters which were absolutely delicious. And when our mains came out they were all equally yum.
We noticed they were advertising cooking classes and decided to book ourselves on for the next day as the food had been so good.
An early night for all.
